Chemistry Association Valedictory
The valedictory function of the association was held on 25th February 2020. It was followed by a talk on Scope of Chemistry by Dr. Ananthapadmanabhan.


Pranamam : Farewell to Dr. V S Sebastian
The Chemistry Department arranged a befitting farewell ‘Pranamam’ for our beloved H.O.D Dr. V.S. Sebastian on 21st February 2020. The function was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Jose Kuriedath, Provincial of Sacred Heart Province, Kochi. The presence of many of our former teachers and alumni has graced the occasion.


Chemifest 2020
Chemifest, the annual cultural event which incorporates students from all batches of Chemistry Department on 21-02-2020. In this event, 3rd D.C Chemistry won the first prize and 1st P.G and 2nd P.G were the first and 2nd runners-up respectively.


17th Prof. P. J. Joseph Memorial Intercollegiate Chemistry Quiz
Department of Chemistry organized Prof. P. J. Joseph Memorial Intercollegiate Quiz on 7th February 2020. Total of 12 teams from various colleges participated in the prelims at 10.30 am. Out of which 4 colleges entered the finals at 3.00 pm. Quiz master was Dr. Ramakrishnan S of Department of Chemistry, Sacred Heart College.


Prof. K. V. Thomas Endowment National Seminar
18th Prof. K. V. Thomas endowment national seminar was held on the theme New Frontiers in Materials and Environmental Science during 28-29 January 2020. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of MG University Prof. Dr. Sabu Thomas inaugurated the seminar and gave an introductory lecture. Resource persons from national research and academic institutes delivered plenary lectures. Participants include research scholars and students from different parts of the country. There were 19 poster presentations and 46 oral presentations by the delegates.


Perpen – A Paper Pen Revolution
Students of Chemistry department led by Mr. Sijo Jose and Ms. Somitha Mathew took the challenge of producing paper pens for the campus community. Over 3000 pens have been prepared so far and distributed to students and teachers. Principal Rev. Dr. Prasant Palackappillil CMI, College bursar Rev. Dr. Sebastian John CMI supported the students in this entrepreneurship venture and faculty member Dr. Ignatious Abraham guided this green initiative.


Stoichea 2K19 – International Year Of Periodic Table 2019 Celebrations
As a part of International year of Periodic Table, the Chemistry Association held a week-long celebration titled ‘Stoicheia 2k19’ from 2 – 6 December 2019. A periodic table exhibition was conducted in the College portico with the goal of spreading more information about Periodic Table among the students.

Various competitions like Quiz, troll making competition and Photography competition was held for the students of S. H College. The final day of Stoicheia 2k19 was dedicated to school students. The students from different schools actively participated in Quiz, Treasure hunt, and Essay writing competitions. As a part of Stoicheia 2k19, our students visited more than 25 schools, distributing the paper pens and thus spreading the importance of environment conservation.


Chemistry Add-On Course
An add on course by Chemistry department on Canning and food preservation was successfully completed. 32 students participated and had a hands-on experience in various programmes, wine making pickle making, carrot halwa, crush, were made. Students bid a sale of it as well which turned out to be a huge success
The course was coordinated by Dr Jinu George.


Chemistry Association Inauguration:
The chemistry association was officially inaugurated on 3rd September 2019. Principal Rev. Dr. Prasant Palackappillil CMI inaugurated the function. The inauguration was followed by a lecture on “lab safety measures” by Dr. Jude Martin Mendez.


Inauguration Of Nobel Laureate Hall:

III BSc class room is upgraded into a smart class room and rechristened as Nobel Laureate Hall, attributed to the visit of two Nobel Laureates in Chemistry Prof. Ei-Chi Neigishi and Prof. Robert H Grubbs to the college and department. Manager Rev. Dr. Augustine Thottakkara CMI blessed and inaugurated the Nobel Laureate Hall on 20 August 2019.


Certificate Course On Computer Aided Drug Design (CADD):
An eight week certificate course on CADD was organized for teachers, research scholars and students. Dr. Abi T G was the coordinator.
